outfit of the day: summer picnic (and a small rant)

First, an apology: I had to take today’s pics using a tripod. I’m spoiled now with my photographers, and when I’m on my own, the photos are proof I still have a lot to learn about photography.

Blouse, J. Crew Outlet
Skirt, J. Crew
Necklace, Talbots
Shoes, Karen Scott

What is it about gingham that reminds me of a picnic? I’m not a huge picnicking persion (not a fan of bugs), but I’m making an effort to enjoy summer pieces and stop wishing for fall. Even though I totally am. I tried making myself not wish summer away so quickly by remembering how truly heinous it is to get out of bed when it’s 20 degrees outside.

Can I just rant for a moment? I love being inspired by my favorite bloggers, but I’m starting to get really sick of seeing them in blazers, long pants, close-toed shoes and sweaters, when I know darn well they didn’t survive the whole day in those outfits. It’s 91 today, people. This is what I actually wore. If I pose in a blazer, I wore that blazer all day. (My office is freezing!) But pretending leather jeggings worked for summer is not realistic – it’s just ridiculous.

Ok, rant over. For now.

  1. Love this color combo! I use a tripod too.. it would be great to have a photographer! I have wondered the same thing about leather jeggings… P

  2. I totally agree! It is obviously too hot to wear a scarf and riding boots right now, but everyone seems to be doing it! Don’t get me wrong, I love fall just as much as the next blogger, but it’s not fall yet! And as for the tripod, I totally understand your pain. What I would give to have a real photographer take all my outfit photos!

  3. Haha :) Right on. By the way, you look gorgeous in these photos. I think your tripod did just fine.

  4. I agree with your rant. Just because you are a fashion blogger does not mean you have to be so stylish and ahead of trends to share with readers. I’m in 95 degree weather today, I’m trying to be as cool as a cucumber without sweating because of “fall clothes are in!”

    Good job with the tripod!

  5. Your gingham shirt is so cute! I have a similar one but with bigger checks :) I agree, it’s totally ridiculous to see bloggers wearing jackets and boots now (unless that blogger is actually IN a cold climate).

  6. beautiful outfit! Funny rant. My office is freezing too, so I’ve been wearing a blazer most of the summer! In fact, my fingers are cold right now!

  7. This is such a classy outfit but I love how you kept it fun with the gingham print (gotta love gingham!).

  8. New follower here! I found you through Kate’s blog! (She designed my blog as well) I totally agree with your rant! I grew up in SC and moved to Texas in January and I seriously cannot even hear to put on my blazer inside of my house! It’s too hot for that….
