Blazer, J. Crew • Shell, Vera Wang for Kohl’s • Pants, Ann Taylor • Shoes, Nine West Outlet
When I bought this blazer, I knew it was an obvious summer piece – but I couldn’t just save it for a few months out of the year. I was determined to make it work for fall – and why not? Get your money out of those summer staples by pairing them with fall colors. Fabric weight is a lot more important than color for seasonal items – my eyelet blazer, for instance, is way too light for October. Plus I get another chance to wear my favorite cords with an outfit like this – seriously, could Ann Taylor have designed a more flattering style?
And how perfect I’m wearing plum – that’s the color for this month’s Color Challenge! Also called eggplant, burgundy or my personal favorite, aubergine, this is one of my favorite fall and winter colors.
LOFT blouse • Ann Taylor cords (I’m wearing these!) Old Navy peacoat • Amethyst earrings • Target blazer • Cascade 128 superwash yarn • J. Crew turtleneck • Target scarf
Joining in the Color Challenge is easy – just come back in a week (Thursday, October 18) and add your blog link. I can’t wait to see your plum outfits!

Oooh I actually have burgundy! Yay! I can join! Looking beautiful BBF.
Good work with the yellow blazer – I don’t know if I would have thought to pair it with burgundy but it totally works! I love that color!
Thanks for visiting my blog and the sweet comment!
Can you make every color work for you?! I’m so jealous. I wouldn’t have thought such a sunny yellow would work with the rich, deep plum but they even each other out nicely. I have plum tights that I can’t wait to wear, maybe I’ll break them out in time for your color challenge.
Catherine, I love your blog! And this outfit is so fall perfect! Thank you so much for visiting my blog! I’m following you via bloglovin!
The yellow and plum are so pretty together
Love the purple and yellow together! That jacket is so pretty, and I think you transitioned it into fall really well
I am a total fan of plum, too! I love those cords (but now that I live in FL they are probably no longer practical, sad face) and the yellow blazer is the perfect pop of color.

Hi Catherine! I just found your site from the comment you made on my blog – and I’m so excited I did!!! I love your style – this blazer is gorgeous. I totally agree that material more so than color is important in seasonality of an item. With this ensemble the blazer looks perfectly fall!!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog – I’m a new follower over here! Looking forward to being part of next week’s challenge.
Love this color combo and it looks amazing on you!
Lovely color combo! I really do like yellow, although it’s a difficult color for me to wear. It looks great on you! Have a fabulous weekend!
I think purple and yellow are my favorite combo in the fall. Its like an addiction!
