Outfit of the Day: Tunics are Fun

J. Crew tunic coverup (really old. Like college days-old. Alas) • J. Crew Minnie pants Loft sandals

I don’t know about you but I love a good tunic. They’re flattering and have extra coverage, which means they work great with leggings/tight capris (like my favorite Minnies). This top is actually a swimsuit coverup. You can’t see it very well in these photos, but it’s pale pink and has the most lovely subtle embroidery on it – far too pretty for just the beach. Swimsuit coverups are a great way to find beautiful tunics to wear for more dressy occasions – I got a cute one from Old Navy a few weeks ago that I’ll be wearing in an outfit post soon!

And ooh look, I have short hair!

Outfit of the Day: Maxi Love

I love a good maxi dress made work-appropriate with a lightweight cardi.

Hey I’m back to blogging! Remember I told you guys I was in love with maxi dresses? Well, I’ve fallen even harder. This maxi from Target is SO comfortable and affordable and flattering that I may have bought the black-and-white striped version and a plain black one. (Hey, when you find something you love, you have  to have it in multiple colors, right? RIGHT?!)

Maxi dresses are absolutely perfect for the summertime – cool enough for hot days and warm enough for over-air-conditioned offices. I plan on pairing this dress with a blazer when it cools off a little (seems like that will be SO far away). Any other ideas for dressing up this outfit?

Also, serious face alert:

Outfit of the Day: The Best Work Dress

Land's End shift dress with colorful pumps

Land’s End sleeveless ponte welt pocket dress • Ann Taylor perfect pumps • bracelets from Stella & Dot, Alex and Ami and Tiffanys

I know you might think that’s a pretty bold statement, but hear me out – this Land’s End ponte dress is the best work dress you’ll own.

The material is thick enough to not wrinkle, but thin enough so that you won’t be overheated on a hot summer day. The dress comes with pockets (!) and looks as polished with a belt as without. Add a blazer or cardi for slightly cooler spring days, and by the time fall and winter roll around, pair the dress with tights and boots. It’s an all-year dress that looks perfect with a cute pair of heels. This is the dress for those mornings when you have no time to pick out your outfit – I love just putting on one piece, and I’m ready to go. This dress is also available in solid colors (I’m coveting the navy!) and is truly a perfect addition to any work wardrobe (but would even be cute at a shower or afternoon wedding!).

I swear Land’s End isn’t paying me to say these things! I just really love this dress (thank you, Mom!) and wanted to pass along my love for it to all of you!

Sorry for stepping away from blogging for (almost) two weeks! I’m still working on my first novel and then had a lovely and relaxing Memorial Day weekend – exactly the rest I needed to get rejuvenated for blogging.

And another thing I needed – a cute outfit! I didn’t own a single maxi dress until last September when I was going to an outdoor wedding, and the weather was predicted to be unseasonably cool. This dress made the perfect wedding outfit – and I’m thrilled that it worked for the office just as well. Why have I not been wearing maxi dresses all my life?! They are kind of amazing and insanely comfortable. I may have bought two more at Target this weekend.

And yeah, I did get sucked into the Kate Spade surprise sale last week and treated myself to this bag. It happens.

Outfit of the Day: Flowers

A J. Crew Jackie cardigan with a floral dress

Target dress • J. Crew Jackie cardigan • Ralph Lauren sandals • Sunglasses from Amazon

I’ve waited seven months to wear this dress.

I bought it last year at Target on after-season sale for $7. It’s so adorable – and it has POCKETS (which I’ve decided every dress should have)! Plus, did I mention it cost $7?! I am definitely not one for bargain hunting, but even I can appreciate the amazing deal that is a $7 dress with pockets no less.

Outfit of the Day: Punk Floral

J. Crew punk floral blouse (similar at J. Crew Factory) • J. Crew schoolboy blazer (similar) • Target black jeans J. Crew Factory heels (similar) • J. Crew classic link bracelet

I love this print. I usually try to wait until J. Crew puts their brand new pieces on sale, but when the punk floral clothes went online, I immediately bought this blouse – and I’m so glad I did. It’s surprisingly versatile and goes with so much. And J. Crew has been great in bringing back successful prints, because this blouse is for sale at J. Crew Factory now! They also have this super cute skirt, and I am thinking about getting these pants. Ah, bold patterns. I love them so much.

Thank you Mom for taking my photos! (But this is why I hold my hands the way I do – see how weird my fingers look!)

Outfit of the Day: I Finally Got a Tulle Skirt!

A fancy blouse and a tulle skirt make a perfect work look.

J. Crew top • Tulle skirt c/o eShakti • Target pumps

And I am IN LOVE with it! Yes, perhaps I was the most dressed up person in the office that year month day, and yes, it was a particularly windy day to wear a giant skirt and I only barely avoided several Marilyn Monroe moments, but it was WORTH IT. Many of you will know I’ve been searching for a perfect tulle skirt for a while – and yes, you can make tulle work in the corporate world. I specifically chose black for that reason – I wanted a tulle skirt that would still look professional, but allow me to let my personality shine. While I still want an ivory tulle skirt, black works for more occasions. I can’t wait to dress this one up for a party!

Also, it has pockets. A tulle skirt with POCKETS, people.

Did I mention I was in love?

outfit of the day: floral jeans again

A cozy sweater with floral jeans

Gap waffle-stitch sweater • Ann Taylor floral jeans • Target wedges • J. Crew necklace

Sorry for the rather longer-than-I-meant-it-to-be pause on the blog! I am back and ready for more spring outfits. What I am apparently not ready for is heels. I spent all winter avoiding heels (there’s just something about the extreme cold combined with the extra effort of wearing heels that I cannot get past in the morning), and when I popped these wedges on and started walking around in them, my lower back immediately began to hurt. I felt extremely ridiculous and spent the rest of the day alternatively hobbling and standing up as straight as possible. My bad posture is getting to me.

And I realize that sweater weather might maybe please be over soon, but if you’re still in the market for a cozy piece, I cannot recommend this sweater enough. I waited until it went on sale and got another one in dark gray. I love it. Cozy sweaters for the win.

Outfit of the Day: I Thought By Wearing a Flower Dress it Would Make Spring Happen

A summer floral dress works in the winter with a blazer and tights

Talbots dress, blazer and belt • Target heels

It pained me to put on tights last week. We’ve had snippets of warm weather. My tulips and daffodils are peaking above the ground, and it’s supposed to snow tonight. The day after I wore this outfit, I was in capris with bare ankles. This week it’s going to be in the 30s. If spring in the Midwest doesn’t make you crazy, you can survive anything.

I may have to wear tights for another week, but at least I can wear cute dresses with them.

My face in these pictures are brought to you by the bright sun in my eyes.

Outfit of the Day: Loft Jacket Buddies

A Lou & Grey Loft jacket worn on Sarah and me

On me – Loft Lou & Grey herringbone sweatshirt jacket • J. Crew shirt and chinos • Nine West Outlet shoes

I know I talked last week about how AMAZING Loft’s Lou & Grey line is. My BBF (blogger best friend, natch) Sarah agreed, and we both ended up buying the same jacket, amongst other comfy pieces. I like how I’m admiring Sarah’s outfit in the photo above. Of course I am – she always looks cute! (I think I’m also envying her leather leggings.) This jacket is made of sweatshirt material but cut like a blazer – so it means it’s perfect for work. I think I’ll wear it next with a longer top underneath. Honestly, I love how comfy and cozy it is. (Plus it’s 40% off!)

Check out Sarah’s blog for her outfit details – and make sure you add her to your daily reading!

And finally – Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Erin go bragh!
