Outfit of the Day: My Favorite Skirt

I have been a pretty lazy blogger lately, and I have no good excuse for it. It’s hot, and at the end of the day, I’m so tired, the only thing I feel like doing is putting on my yoga pants and passing out. I also haven’t liked my outfits for the pats few days, which means I’m pretty But I love sharing outfits, and I miss hearing from my readers.

But this outfit, I like. This outfit, I love. I love this skirt so much. The shape, style and colors are perfect. The material doesn’t wrinkle (very easily). J. Crew (and any other clothing retailers listening), THIS is the style of skirt I’ve been craving. Please make more of these.

Outfit of the Day: Denim Jacket

I’m not afraid to eat my words, especially when the meal would be a result of me finding a piece of clothing I had been searching for. I used to see bloggers wearing cute outfits with a denim jacket and roll my eyes – mostly out of jealously, because the perfect denim jacket eluded me. Then I definitely said on Twitter that I was just one of those weird fashion bloggers who didn’t like denim jackets. That is, until I found this one at Target. It was a total impluse buy, since I was already skeptical of denim jackets, but one that paid off. I love this jacket. It has a hint of spandex that gives it just enough stretch to be comfy. My problem with denim jackets was they were always so stiff. This one feels like it’s been lived in for years, and of course goes with everything.

So basically what I’m saying is now I get it, guys. Denim jackets are awesome.

P.S. Can I also rave about the lip gloss I’m wearing? It’s NYX butter gloss in apple strudel, and it’s basically amazing – super smooth and wears well with other lipsticks. My lip product addiction is still going strong.

Outfit of the Day: Bam. Color.

Neon yellow sweater and blue pants

Gap luxlight cardigan • Banana Republic chiffon tank (similar) • J. Crew cafe capris • LOFT sandals

I was asked a question the other day about how I tone down bright colors. I laughed and answered, “I don’t.” This outfit is proof that brights are just better together. More is more when it comes to color, people.

And can I once again use this platform to complain about the COMPLETE and TOTAL lack of COLOR this summer? These pants are from J. Crew’s spring line a few years ago, and they’ve been one of my biggest Lack of Color Offenders. This year has truly been the Season of Perpetual Neutrals. I get that whites and tans are classic, but COME ON. Where’s the color? We certainly won’t see that this fall, minus the usual jewel tones.

Sigh. It’s so difficult sometimes being obsessed with clothes.

Outfit of the Day: Tunics are Fun

J. Crew tunic coverup (really old. Like college days-old. Alas) • J. Crew Minnie pants Loft sandals

I don’t know about you but I love a good tunic. They’re flattering and have extra coverage, which means they work great with leggings/tight capris (like my favorite Minnies). This top is actually a swimsuit coverup. You can’t see it very well in these photos, but it’s pale pink and has the most lovely subtle embroidery on it – far too pretty for just the beach. Swimsuit coverups are a great way to find beautiful tunics to wear for more dressy occasions – I got a cute one from Old Navy a few weeks ago that I’ll be wearing in an outfit post soon!

And ooh look, I have short hair!

Outfit of the Day: Maxi Love

Hey I’m back to blogging! Remember I told you guys I was in love with maxi dresses? Well, I’ve fallen even harder. This maxi from Target is SO comfortable and affordable and flattering that I may have bought the black-and-white striped version and a plain black one. (Hey, when you find something you love, you have  to have it in multiple colors, right? RIGHT?!)

Maxi dresses are absolutely perfect for the summertime – cool enough for hot days and warm enough for over-air-conditioned offices. I plan on pairing this dress with a blazer when it cools off a little (seems like that will be SO far away). Any other ideas for dressing up this outfit?

Also, serious face alert:

Outfit of the Day: The Best Work Dress

Land's End shift dress with colorful pumps

Land's End shift dress with colorful pumps

Land’s End sleeveless ponte welt pocket dress • Ann Taylor perfect pumps • bracelets from Stella & Dot, Alex and Ami and Tiffanys

I know you might think that’s a pretty bold statement, but hear me out – this Land’s End ponte dress is the best work dress you’ll own.

The material is thick enough to not wrinkle, but thin enough so that you won’t be overheated on a hot summer day. The dress comes with pockets (!) and looks as polished with a belt as without. Add a blazer or cardi for slightly cooler spring days, and by the time fall and winter roll around, pair the dress with tights and boots. It’s an all-year dress that looks perfect with a cute pair of heels. This is the dress for those mornings when you have no time to pick out your outfit – I love just putting on one piece, and I’m ready to go. This dress is also available in solid colors (I’m coveting the navy!) and is truly a perfect addition to any work wardrobe (but would even be cute at a shower or afternoon wedding!).

I swear Land’s End isn’t paying me to say these things! I just really love this dress (thank you, Mom!) and wanted to pass along my love for it to all of you!

Sorry for stepping away from blogging for (almost) two weeks! I’m still working on my first novel and then had a lovely and relaxing Memorial Day weekend – exactly the rest I needed to get rejuvenated for blogging.

And another thing I needed – a cute outfit! I didn’t own a single maxi dress until last September when I was going to an outdoor wedding, and the weather was predicted to be unseasonably cool. This dress made the perfect wedding outfit – and I’m thrilled that it worked for the office just as well. Why have I not been wearing maxi dresses all my life?! They are kind of amazing and insanely comfortable. I may have bought two more at Target this weekend.

And yeah, I did get sucked into the Kate Spade surprise sale last week and treated myself to this bag. It happens.

Outfit of the Day: Flowers

A J. Crew Jackie cardigan with a floral dress

Target dress • J. Crew Jackie cardigan • Ralph Lauren sandals • Sunglasses from Amazon

I’ve waited seven months to wear this dress.

I bought it last year at Target on after-season sale for $7. It’s so adorable – and it has POCKETS (which I’ve decided every dress should have)! Plus, did I mention it cost $7?! I am definitely not one for bargain hunting, but even I can appreciate the amazing deal that is a $7 dress with pockets no less.

I love this print. I usually try to wait until J. Crew puts their brand new pieces on sale, but when the punk floral clothes went online, I immediately bought this blouse – and I’m so glad I did. It’s surprisingly versatile and goes with so much. And J. Crew has been great in bringing back successful prints, because this blouse is for sale at J. Crew Factory now! They also have this super cute skirt, and I am thinking about getting these pants. Ah, bold patterns. I love them so much.

Thank you Mom for taking my photos! (But this is why I hold my hands the way I do – see how weird my fingers look!)

Outfit of the Day: I Finally Got a Tulle Skirt!

A fancy blouse and a tulle skirt make a perfect work look.

J. Crew top • Tulle skirt c/o eShakti • Target pumps

And I am IN LOVE with it! Yes, perhaps I was the most dressed up person in the office that year month day, and yes, it was a particularly windy day to wear a giant skirt and I only barely avoided several Marilyn Monroe moments, but it was WORTH IT. Many of you will know I’ve been searching for a perfect tulle skirt for a while – and yes, you can make tulle work in the corporate world. I specifically chose black for that reason – I wanted a tulle skirt that would still look professional, but allow me to let my personality shine. While I still want an ivory tulle skirt, black works for more occasions. I can’t wait to dress this one up for a party!

Also, it has pockets. A tulle skirt with POCKETS, people.

Did I mention I was in love?
