outfit of the day: happy valentine’s day

Gap neon pink sweater with red pants

Sweater, Gap • pants, LOFT • shoes, J. Crew Factory • necklace, Kate Spade

Even though today is Valentine’s Day, I wore my super girly Valentines outfit yesterday for Galentine’s Day! I had a wonderful dinner out with my girlfriends, wore the brightest, pinkest sweater I own and even taught a few people in my office what Galentine’s Day means.

I love a good holiday, especially one as fun as Valentine’s Day. I know it’s become cliche and commercialized but really, what’s better than a holiday that includes flowers and chocolate and time with the people you love?

Speaking of love… oh yeah. I went there.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

what a year

Happy New Year, everyone! First – an apology. I’m sorry I’ve been absent from the blog, but I firmly believe that if you don’t have anything to say blog-wise, don’t force a post. I traveled for the first time this Christmas break (I know, I’m spoiled and lucky to have my family close by), and it exhausted me more than I ever thought it would. Consequently, I barely had time to get my Christmas knitting done – and I really wanted to enjoy out-of-town guests and friends while they were here, never mind my break.

So here I sit with less than three hours to go, and I just wanted to say hello – and thank you. This was a year of major change. heartbreak and happiness, and I am thankful for every minute. I have the best family and friends – and then there’s this guy.

Love you, boyfriend. Thanks for going out that night.

I think 2013 is going to be just fine.

outfit of the day: my office party

Shirt (similar) and blouse, J. Crew • pants, LOFT • loafers, Steve Madden • bracelets, Target and J. Crew

I’m not going to lie – I’ve been planning my office party outfit for, oh, a month. Possibly ridiculous, but I will take any excuse to deck myself in sequins and two different patterns. I absolutely love the holidays – partly because of the sparkle and color and partly because I get to take a moment and just enjoy the season. Over the weekend, I went with my boyfriend and his family to Christmas at the Zoo – which is really just the zoo with Christmas lights everywhere. It was absolutely wonderful, and reminded me how much I love the holidays – and how lucky I am to spend Christmas with those I love.

And how much I love sequins.

holiday outfit: festive at work

Banana Republic velvet trim cardigan • Talbots lace skirt • Target Maye black patent heels • J. Crew polka dot sequin top • Banana Republic floral lace tights • Ann Taylor pearlized bow brooch necklace

No need to stop celebrating the holidays at work – add a little festive cheer to your outfits with luxe details like lace and velvet. Bold red and purple makes a fashion statement – and each piece can be mixed again into a different outfit. Wear this look during the day, and easily transition to an evening office party. I treated myself to the J. Crew polka dot sequin top in black and can’t wait to layer it under blouses – and I just got the Target shoes in and have to say they are the most comfortable heels I own!

holiday outfit: casual sparkle

J. Crew sweater • Ann Taylor cordsTalbots flatsLOFT necklace • Land’s End wine tote

Holiday outfits are my absolute favorite – not that I spare wearing sequins for any reason! This outfit is perfect for a casual party with friends or even a December day at the office – add a cute plaid blouse for extra polish. I have those cords in a different color and they are incredibly flattering – I can’t wait to get them in red!

outfit of the day: halloween

Blazer, Sugar Lips • tee and necklace, J. Crew Outlet • pants, J. Crew • wedges, Target

Ok, so maybe I went a little literal with the Halloween colors. My office is very traditional, and no one wears costumes, which is at the very least an opportunity to be creative with my outfit. A subtle cat-eye, some black nails and orange pants, and I was good to go.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween – now it’s (almost) Christmas time, aka my FAVORITE time of the year!!

outfit of the day: red, white and blue

Happy Fourth of July – and yay for a random day off in the middle of the week!

Shirt, Talbots
Skirt, J. Crew

Shoes, Target
Bracelets, J. Crew and Tiffanys

I have to be honest – July 4 is my least-favorite holiday. Why? I HATE fireworks. I have been afraid of loud noises ever since the Great Egg Hunt Drama of 1987, back in the days when they used to shoot off a gun (with a blank in it) to start the Easter egg hunt. Why did they even do that? A whistle would have been sufficient. At least it would have spared me sleepless nights during thunderstorms and years of July 4 holiday parties huddled in my room as my brother sets off bottle rockets directly outside my window. I lost many Barbies to those bottle rockets.

Last year was actually the very first year I was not as much of a baby brave enough to sit outside during a fireworks display. While not being half a mile away from said fireworks. They really are pretty. I just wish they weren’t so loud. At least red, white and blue are fun colors to mix together! To those celebrating, I wish you a wonderful, relaxing, flameless holiday.

I had a bunch of jumpy photos that got cut from the final three. Never fear – I’m sure they’ll crop up in the semi-annual outtakes post coming up at the end of the month!

outfit of the day: erin go bragh

I started planning my St. Patrick’s Day outfit on Monday (because that’s totally normal) and suddenly realized the holiday would fall on a weekend. Not to be deterred, I wore my most festive green a day early.

Sweater, Old Navy
Skirt, J. Crew
Shoes, Target
Necklace, Talbots

My Irish roots come from my grandmother – though I still haven’t tried her corned beef and cabbage. Horrible granddaughter, I know.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

outfit of the day: valentine

I planned on wearing something brighter (aka, more holiday-ish) today. Then I paired this cardi with the skirt, and those plans went out the window.

Cardi, Halogene via Nordstrom

Tee, Talbots
Skirt, Jason Wu for Target
Tights, Old Navy
Boots, Burberry Outlet
Necklace, J. Crew Outlet

Besides, I occasionally dress loud anyway, holiday or no.

Is anyone else in the habit of “saving” outfits? I’ll be in the mood to wear pants, but I’ll come up with a really cute outfit with a skirt, for example. I used to do that a lot, and now I think it’s ridiculous. When you come up with a cute outfit, wear it – regardless of what you think you “should” wear.

Did you see my cute Valentine’s Day pic on my Facebook page? Thank you Lisa for taking it!

2012

resolutions goals for 2012:

  • Learn how to use my camera – for reals. Possibly invest in a taller tripod and a new lens – though not until I know what I’m doing with what I have now. (The pic above was my first attempt at bokeh!)
  • Do more with less – mix up my clothes and make more outfits without buying new pieces as much.
  • Go outside my fashion comfort zone. Things I currently do not do: shorts with tights, sheer hose, high-waisted pants, collared shirts tucked in with a belt, extremely high shoes, tons of jewelry. Conquer at least one of these fashion fears. Just not the nude hose one.
  • THRIFT. My god, you people with your fabulous secondhand finds – you’d think I’d be inspired to do this by now!
  • Finish the novel that’s been jingling around in my head for a while now.
  • Keep working out. It’s the cliche one.
  • Run a 5K. I can’t even put this in normal font size because it scares me so much.

Happy New Year. I love you all and I wish you wonderful goals and the willpower to achieve them. You deserve it.
