outfit of the day: punk floral (plus sponsor intro!)

J. Crew punk floral - bright green with neon pink

J. Crew punk floral - bright green with neon pink

J. Crew punk floral swoop top (it keeps selling out online and then popping back, so keep checking!) • J. Crew No. 2 pencil skirt (last year, but here’s this year’s cotton version) • Karen Scott peep-toe heels • Tiffany’s and Zenzi via Stitchfix bracelets

This top is part of J. Crew’s punk floral collection, which makes me laugh, because I am the least punk person ever. Apart from a few colorful hairdos, I am about as punk as a bright pink skirt with a green top. Bright color is punk, right?

I have seen this top on adorable outfits from Annie and Tara and when J. Crew had a 20% off sale (and I saw it in my size), I went for it. I love LOVE the color and can’t wait to try this top with jeans for the weekend or white pants. Oh the possibilites.

It’s Sponsor Intro time, and I’m super excited to introduce you to Katy of Sugar and Chiffon! Katy was one of the first bloggers I connected with when I started my blog, she’s a fellow Midwesterner and she just graduated from law school! Which basically means she’s amazing. (I mean, obviously – look at those pants!) I’m so excited to have Katy sponsor my blog! You can also check her out on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest!

Name: Katy Hanawalt
Where I live: Cleveland, Ohio
Favorite Foods: Iced coffee, good cheese, chips & fresh salsa, and peaches when they are in season
Free Afternoon: Probably go shopping! I love going to Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Home Goods and spending hours digging through everything.
Current Nail Polish: something neon pink from Zoya. I got it done at a salon and can’t remember the name, but it’s super bright and fun.
Favorite music on my iPod: This one always throws people…mostly rap and old, classic rock. Right now I really like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Pitbull, and I’ve been playing that Florida Georgia Line “Cruise” remix with Nelly nonstop. Simon & Garfunkel, Pat Benatar, Bon Jovi, and Journey are always favorites.

outfit of the day: ode to summer (seriously, get here already)

Gap oxford blouse with a pink sweater and floral skirt

Summer. It’s so close, I can almost taste it. It’s in the air, as strong as the smell of freshly-mowed grass. And yet, the temp just dropped 30 degrees with a chance of snow flurries today. I hate the fickleness that is Indiana (well really, the Midwest) weather, especially in the spring. It has been so lovely this week, and of course during the weekend when I can actually enjoy the outdoors, it’s going to be colder.

I bought this skirt when I graduated and got my first job (seems like SO long ago!), and I rarely wear it. Can you tell why? I don’t iron anyway, but it honestly wouldn’t matter. I sit at a desk all day long – and this thing wrinkles. At least the colors are pretty!

I swear if all the pretty flowers freeze, I’m going to go crazy. Probably on the dandelions in my yard (which will invariably survive. They are the cockroaches of the plant world.) Brian wanted to take some pictures with this gorgeous redbud behind me. I wish it bloomed all year.

I shall caption this one, “Honey, hurry up and take the picture, it’s thundering really bad!”

outfit of the day: barbie shoes

I loved Barbie when I was growing up. I still remember walking running to the Barbie aisle at Target and giggling with glee at the beautiful Barbie dolls in their shiny pink boxes. I had a pink Barbie dreamhouse and a Barbie convertible that I played with everyday, and I even celebrated several Barbie weddings, complete with photos that I insisted on getting developed. I still lament the fact that all my childhood Barbies got lost when my mom’s house flooded a few years ago. (As if my future daughters would appreciate playing with tangled-hair, mismatched-clothed Barbies.) So when my mom proclaimed the pair of shoes my sister-in-law found for me (on sale!) as “Barbie shoes,” I didn’t even have to try them on. They were beloved from first slightly-wobbly step.

Just a reminder: tomorrow is Whatever Works Wednesday! Come bring your links and join the (link-up) party!

Not loving how tired I look. This is what happens when you try to take outfit pics during lunch and find out that your camera battery is dead, so you have to wait until after work.

That’s a complaint worthy of #bloggerproblems, if I ever heard one.

product review: rita hazan pop color temporary color spray

Thank you all so much for your kind words about my post Wednesday. I was very nervous to post it, but I’m so glad I did!

I have a thing for dyeing my hair – especially crazy colors. I’ll try any color, and I’ve always wanted to dye my hair pink, but my job prevents me from making that a permanent change. Temporary hair color is the perfect solution -  I can have fun for the weekend and wash it away Sunday evening. When I went to Sephora a few weeks ago and saw a new colorful hair spray, I knew I had to try it out.

Rita Hazan Pop Color Temporary hair color spray

Rita Hazan Pop Color temporary hair spray comes in three shades – pink, purple and teal. The product looks like mini cans of hairspray – and that’s exactly how you apply it. I sectioned my hair off and went to town.

Sorry for the awkward photos. I had my cell phone inside my medicine cabinet to take these. Oh the lengths we go to for blog photos.

Once you’re done – beautiful colorful streaks that really do wash out after one shower! I was partial to the pink spray, but it was fun to play with all the colors. The spray did leave my hair feeling dry, which I tried to combat with some dry shampoo. At $18 a can, Rita Hazan Pop Color isn’t inexpensive, but it is a fun way to add some color to your hair without having to commit. I had so much fun with my rainbow hair, and I can’t wait to play around with the hair spray this weekend!

outfit of the day: i can’t get enough of this blazer

If I had to pick one piece of clothing to keep and wear for the rest of my life, it might be this blazer. I’m sure this will come as a surprise to none of you.

Blazer, H&M
Shell, Talbots
Pants, J. Crew
Shoes, J. Crew Outlet

Every time I wear this blazer, I get comments about how bright it is – which I love. But it also makes me kind of sad, because I wish more people, especially in the corporate world, would wear bright colors One of these days, I’m going to wear this blazer with my neon pink skirt and really blow people’s minds.

Don’t forget – you can still enter my jewelry giveaway! And coming tomorrow – the September Color Challenge link-up! I can’t wait to see your fabulous mustard outfits!

It never fails – wearing this skirt just makes me happy.

Shoes, RALPH Ralph Lauren

Not quite as happy as getting my hair done last night though. It’s really like a massage for me – I feel so refreshed afterwards, and I love catching up with my hairdresser Jackie!

product review: sultra hair mascara

I have always loved having fun with my hair – and am dyeing (ha ha, I couldn’t resist!) to go for an all-over pink look. Since I work in an office where colorful hair beyond the norm isn’t appropriate, a temporary product that’s easy to use and washes out after one shower is the perfect solution.

After looking for temporary dye, I decided to try Sultra’s color hair mascara and was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the ultra pink color and couldn’t help myself when I received it in the mail a few days ago.

The product is incredibly easy to use – it really looks like a giant mascara brush. Applying the dye is easy: simply swipe a strand of hair, wait and brush through. While the instructions advised a few minutes before brushing, I’m a big fan of the lighter pink look and brushed immediately. Even so, the pink was pretty bright, which I loved. I noticed the product dried my hair out, so I dyed smaller pieces and then sprayed some of my favorite dry shampoo in. That seemed to help … a little. But for some fun pink streaks that wash out immediately, it’s worth it!

I obviously have lighter (color-treated) blonde hair. I don’t know how this product will show up if you have dark hair, but I’d love to hear about it if you try it!

Please note: neither Sultra nor Sephora paid me for this review. I just really love this product and hope they expand and offer more colors!

new post: stripes in pink (and blue)

A new top (that I found on sale!) means a great excuse to pull out my favorite neon skirt.

Top, Talbots
Skirt, J. Crew
Wedges, RALPH Ralph Lauren

While I don’t like totally matchy-matchy outfits, I love it when I find pieces from completely different stores that work perfectly together.

I also think pink and navy is one of my favorite color combos ever. That’s saying something, even for me.

outfit of the day: i love this pink blazer

I have been waiting to recreate this look for over a year. I wore black with my pink blazer last time, and I think I like white much better. Oh I love this blazer so much I could dance. (Don’t worry; I won’t.)

Blazer, H&M
Dress, LOFT
Shoes, Lauren Ralph Lauren
Bracelets, J. Crew and Tiffanys

I decided to let my hair be all natural this morning (aka no straightener or curling iron). The next time I do that, someone PLEASE stop me.

I’m linking up with Marionberry Style for her Trend of the Month challenge tomorrow. This is the first challenge I’ve been able to participate in, and I’m so excited! Thanks Marion for doing this!
