can you wear tulle to work? (plus whatever works wednesday)

I have a VERY important question I need you all to answer for me:

Can you wear a tulle skirt in the corporate world?

Alexandra Grecco tulle skirt

I have been lusting for a tulle skirt for a while – and am kind of dying over these from Alexandra Grecco. She’s responsible for the beautiful tulle skirts that sold out at Anthropologie over last year’s holiday season. And even though I am in love with this skirt, I honestly don’t think I can justify almost $200 for it – much less if I can’t even wear it to work.

But I could wear it to other things. Holiday parties. Weddings. The grocery store. (I seriously would do that.)

Or maybe my office just needs its own ballerina. Might be nice to put on my business card.

So what do you think – is this skirt office-appropriate? And just for fun – which color should I order: peach, mint, ivory or gray?

outfit of the day: i told you i love this sweater

Sweater, Matty M via Stitchfix • blouse, Old Navy • skirt, J. Crew Factory • hose, Assets for Target • booties, Nine West Outlet

When I said I wore this sweater three days in a row, I wasn’t kidding! It’s quickly become a wardrobe staple that I see myself reaching for again and again as it gets colder out. And the best part is that it looks just as great dressed up as it does dressed down.

Note to self: no more pictures when the sun is shining in my eyes. Squinty face is not a good look for me.

outfit of the day: i think i like shoulder pads

Let me share a secret with you: this blouse has shoulder pads. And I like them.

Blouse, Ann Taylor
Belt and skirt, J. Crew
Pumps, Talbots
Bracelets, Tiffanys

I love this top – the shoulder pads actually lengthen my shape and the pattern goes with everything – especially my favorite skirt. Seriously, can J. Crew do any wrong with their colors? This is from last spring and is called bright dahlia. Love.

outfit of the day: lace with an edge

I had a whirlwind weekend out of town, and I’m just now wrapping my head around being home. One of my purchases was this lace shell – perfect for summer!

Tank, Banana Republic
Skirt, Jason Wu for Target
Shoes and earrings, LOFT

I love how soft the lace and pleats are against the edgy sandals. Juxtaposing opposite pieces is one of my favorite ways to play with fashion. Speaking of the sandals – I highly recommend them. Brand new, and they were super comfy – no achy feet at all at the end of the day yesterday.

Thank you to everyone who sent in submissions for the Color Challenge! I’ll be posting the great outfits this week, so be on the lookout for that.

Linking up with The Pleated Poppy today.

outfit of the day: dressing up a tee

Have you ever worn a t-shirt to work? I think tees are perfectly acceptable for dressier outfits – if they have some special details. This one has a bubble hem (that I tucked in) and ruffles around the collar and goes as great with pencil skirts as it does with jeans.

Tee and heels, LOFT
Skirt and belt, J. Crew
Earrings, Anthropologie

Sometimes in the morning I really need a shot of inspiration. I keep all my J. Crew catalogs for moments like that because I love the styling and detailing that goes into every outfit – and bam, there it was, a green dress with a blue belt. Outfit born.

Have you sent your Color Challenge submissions yet? This month’s color is aqua, and I want to feature YOU! Send me your links and photos!

outfit of the day: simple pink and navy

Pink and navy – a much loved color combo of mine. Simple is best when you’re an undecided dresser. What is with me this week? I felt blah again today. Plus I had to have my finger pricked yesterday morning. Horrible. I’m going to blame the blahs on that.

Blouse and skirt, Talbots

Necklace, J. Crew Outlet
Earrings, Kate Spade
Shoes, Enzo Angiolini

Have to show off the earrings with a slightly awkward photo.

outfit of the day: slightly drowsy

So the whole vacation thing really messed with my internal clock more than I thought it would. A three-hour time change doesn’t sound that major – until you’re staring at the clock at 11:30 p.m., willing yourself to go to sleep so you can look semi-human at work the next day, but your body thinks it’s 8:30 and you should definitely read another chapter of your book. Or two.

Top, Ann Taylor

Skirt, J. Crew
Shoes, Impo via DSW
Necklace, eBay

I miss In ‘n’ Out already.

outfit of the day: i just want to spin

Another day, another new skirt that makes me want to twirl.

Sweater, necklace and skirt, J. Crew
Shoes, J. Crew Outlet

I love J. Crew’s Tippi sweater. It’s versatile and the perfect weight, even for warmer days – plus the colors are gorg. I have three four. Oops.

outfit of the day: joan, i salute you

I just started watching Mad Men (yeah, I’m probably the last person to watch it), and I’m not gonna lie – I alternate between being depressed and really pissed off. I pretty much want to punch all the guys and a few of the girls (Hi Betty), but I can see why the show is popular. And the writing – well, good writing beats anything.

Top, LOFT
Skirt, J. Crew
Shoes, Karen Scott via Macy’s
Bracelet, J. Crew
Purse, Target
Sunglasses, Target

I’m a sucker for a pencil skirt (obviously), and I couldn’t help feeling a little like Joan yesterday. She’s my favorite character – I want her wardrobe and her makeup artist, please. Oh, and her hair.

And yes, I’m addicted to this bag.

outfit of the day: colorblock party and a giveaway!

You all probably think this pink skirt is all I wear, don’t you?

Well, you’d mostly be right. Can you blame me? Look at the color! Say what you will about J. Crew, but they do color so well. This pink is delicious. And yes, this sweater is brand new. I saw the color, and I had to have it.

Sweater and skirt, J. Crew
Cami, J. Crew Outlet
Heels, Talbots
Watch, Target
Bracelet, J. Crew

My fabulous photographer Brittany and I were having a bit of a gigglefest because we took these photos in a very public place. Between the stares and my heels sinking in the mud, it was pretty funny. Plus I tend to get giggly in uncomfortable situations (aka, having my picture taken).

ETA: This giveaway is now closed.

And what’s a Tuesday without a little fun? I’m very excited to announce another giveaway! The enormously talented Mai of Woodland Belle has graciously agreed to give away a matching set of twig hair clips to a lucky reader. I love my clips and even styled a whole outfit around them. The winner will get to choose a set in golden bronze, antique bronze or antique pewter.

To enter, visit Woodland Belle’s shop and leave a comment telling me your favorite item for sale! Yes, it’s that easy. For an extra entry, like my Facebook page and note that in your comment. This giveaway closes Sunday, May 6 at midnight EST.
